We engage in grassroots organizing by initiating and supporting place-specific, community-led groups in neighborhoods and schools throughout Tacoma and Pierce County.

We provide leadership and help people initiate change in their environments. We set a tone and a standard for healthy, clean, safe community norms.

Mission

Safe Streets unites and inspires youth, neighbors and businesses to build safe, healthy and thriving communities.

Community Impact

We help neighbors:

  • identify changes they think would create a safe and healthy community.
  • by facilitating the creation and maintenance of neighborhood groups.
  • obtain tools to address criminal activity and learn how to build crime prevention.
  • influence decision-makers.
  • through place-based staff and funding.

We help youth:

  • by founding and helping maintain eight youth-led Youth Leading Change chapters in high schools and middle schools in Pierce County and Tacoma.
  • identify issues and changes they like to see in their school environments.
  • shift school culture by addressing and taking action on issues such as mental health, suicide, violence, bullying and drug use.

We engage in domestic violence prevention by:

  • identifying youth and families at risk or currently experiencing violence in the home.
  • providing wraparound services to help families build healthy social and emotional skills to reduce interpersonal violence.
